Liven Up Your Virtual Meeting Rooms and Physical Meeting Spaces

Virtual Meeting Room TOOtheLOUNGE Seating

Step away from the same old environments and change up both you virtual meeting room and physical meeting spaces to keep your team engaged. Freshen up your in-office environment and your online world.

Think about it this way.

Got Zoom fatigue from too many online meetings? You might not get it with in-house staff who are full-time because youre often meeting face-to-face. But you might still need to have online meetings with remote workers, clients, and vendors.

Dont forget that youll also have training sessions if you need to be updated on new technologies or brief your team on compliance issues for your industry.

When youre meeting virtually with teams and addressing people who have different roles and functions, then youll benefit from having online meeting spaces that reflect an in-person experience.

The Virtual Meeting Room Environment

There are virtual meeting spaces designed to appear on-screen like an actual office environment. Youll see avatars at open benching solutions or cubicles in bright colors and you can easily move from a general meeting space to one-on-one chats.

Use interactive elements like YouTube videos and virtual whiteboards for jotting notes. Your virtual meeting room should be designed to keep the attention of attendees.

Now lets look at your physical meeting space, too.

The Physical Meeting Space Environment

Host from a comfortable in-house office space designed for teleconferencing and then connect with remote workers using their mobile phones, laptops, or desktops. Use furniture with integrated technology and connection portals.

Get inspired by what your conferencing center can look like. Check the 2010 Office Furnitures Inspiration Page for Modern Conference Room and Meeting Spaces.

Liven up the dreary and stiff meeting spaces and create an atmosphere that opens people up to collaboration. Who says meeting spaces need four physical walls?

Photo: OFS Obeya Architectural Structure

Imagine a meeting space with a large monitor on a wall for easy viewing of video presentations with another wall used as a whiteboard. Another side of the space has a translucent architectural wall that lets light flow in while keeping the sound within the meeting area.

Making the Virtual Meeting and Physical Space Work

A dedicated physical or virtual meeting room is only one part of having a successful meeting. Set the proper expectations.

Create a positive meeting experience using protocols and the right technologies that support your goals. Send out key points of an agenda and, if appropriate, have people pre-meet to discuss the points and suggest courses of action.

Open a meeting with a brief personal check-in, especially with remote workers who dont get much water cooler” time in the corporate office. This breaks the ice and can foster positive communication. A minute or two for personal sharing can build bonds.

Keep people focused on the agenda, so dont allow multitasking.

A virtual meeting space that simulate a live office environment provide a sense of realism and depth. The way we interact online is still different than if we were in person since picking up cues from body language isnt as noticeable on a computer monitor or smartphone screen.

So wait for others to finish, and speak slowly when its your turn. Use icons to signify that your hand is raised.

Photo: Arcadia Avelina Table

For training sessions, use a well-designed virtual meeting space on a large screen. A larger conference table is a solution, but dont crowd people so theyre uncomfortable.

Photo: DARRAN Bota Table

Try using individual tables or small groups of a few people per table if the topic requires note-taking and interaction with co-workers.

Photo: OFS Applause Table

Use Different Space Sizes

Step out of the same old meeting room by varying the space sizes. Use huddle spaces for up-close conversations. A style like the Encore Hado Lounge Seating can provide comfort and keep you at ease. Use a nesting table that can be easily removed when not needed.

Put your breakroom to strategic use with booths and seating solutions that offer some privacy.

The ERG International Laguna Lounge Seating arrangement is perfect for meeting over coffee or lunch. Its designed so the conversation is channeled and has power management tools so you can stay connected, especially for your virtual meeting room.

Design a Home-Style Meeting Space

Get the durability of commercial furnishings with the comfort of home-like fabrics and colors. Create a resimercial meeting space with the Arcadia TOOtheLOUNGE Seating. The TOOthe LOUNGE can be configured for one person or can accommodate several people.

Planning for Happiness and Productivity in the Office

Happiness and Productivity in the Office OFS Heya Table
Cultivate strong morale and you’ll have more employees who are happy and engaged in their work. But is happiness in the office really important? Shouldn’t people just buckle down and do their work?  Read on to learn how to plan for happiness and productivity in the office.

Let’s think it through and see how to turn happiness into something that’ll fuel a competitive advantage in your company.

What would you rather have?

An employee constantly daydreaming of splashing in the surf off Malibu or skiing in Big Bear while wondering how they can rage apply for jobs at other companies? Or an employee who’s happily focused on finishing their tasks to the best of their abilities?

Happiness matters. Employees who are upbeat and positive will deliver.

In the book, The Happiness Advantage, author Shawn Achor concludes, “A decade of research proves that happiness raises nearly every business and educational outcome: raising sales by 37%, productivity by 31%, and accuracy on tasks by 19%, as well as a myriad of health and quality of life improvements.”

Think of high job satisfaction as a competitive advantage.

But can companies do anything to affect an employee’s happiness?

Create a Destination Place for Happiness and Productivity in the Office

In September 2022, a discussion on the social media platform Reddit surveyed what makes people happy in Los Angeles. Attractions like the Greek Theater, Hollywood Bowl, and Sunset Strip ranked high as did food, like the variety of ethnic foods—from Mexican and Peruvian to Thai and Ethiopian.

You’re not expected to turn the workplace into a resort, but you’re making the office a desired place to settle in and work. In the age of hybrid work schedules and remote work possibilities, create an upbeat atmosphere where people want to be. Make it part of your internal branding.

And as far as food, once or twice a year have entrees brought in that reflect the diverse tastes of Los Angeles.

Here’s what matters.

Plan Spaces

An office with an effective workflow isn’t just a random collection of desks. You need to think of who the users are and how they need unique spaces:

  • Executive decision-makers
  • Managers
  • Full-time in-house employees with specific functions
  • Remote workers
  • Temporary employees

Photo: Enwork Cayman Height Adjustable Desk

An executive may spend hours at her desk, but could her office, or the area just outside the office, also serve as a strategic planning center?

Photo: Friant Anza Lounge Chair

How about creating touchdown spaces? These are more informal lounge areas where remote workers coming into the office for a meeting can sit and prepare. They also serve as meeting areas for in-office workers with an atmosphere that’s more relaxed than conference rooms.

Use Supportive Equipment

Ergonomics is key to achieve happiness and productivity in the office. Keep in mind the benefits of ergonomics and that they set the tone for happy employees. A range of products can help you achieve your goals.

Photo: AMQ Tizu Work Chair

Quality ergonomic chairs that adjust to support the lower back, elbows, and knees reduce the stress of sitting.

Photo: DeskMakers Hover Workstations

Height-adjustable desks make it possible for computer monitors to be at a comfortable eye level so any strain on the neck and shoulders is minimized.

Photo: Snowsound Corner Desk Panels

Ergonomic accessories like proper lighting are a necessity to reduce eye strain. Good lighting is more than lamps. Maximize natural light since it’s proven to boost moods and aid in a person’s natural cycle of waking and sleeping.

Physical discomfort is a distraction and results in much higher rates of absenteeism. Supporting your workers with ergonomic solutions is part of an overall wellness strategy.

Make Clear Communication A Priority

When people know what’s expected of them, then they can handle their work confidently and feel like they’re moving forward with work that matters.

Clarify your vision, mission, and goals.

Listen and address the challenges that arise.

What you’re doing is building a community where people trust each other and believe that management values them.  This will lead to happiness and productivity in the office

This effort “improves processes and procedures and ultimately creates greater efficiencies and reduces costs,” as described by the Society of Human Resource Managers (SHRM) in an article, “Managing Organizational Communication.”

Photo: Friant System2 Workstation

Make communication areas part of your office design. Managers can use cubicles like the Friant System 2 Workstation which can accommodate one to three people for meetings.

Use videoconferencing with remote workers. Everyone can hop on a call using their own laptops, but there could be advantages to having a media space with architectural walls.

Or, use a media table in a compact area. 2010 Office Furniture carries several models.

The Scale 1:1 TeleMeet Connect Table can be expanded to accommodate anywhere from six people to a few dozen staff gathered.

Install a “designated island of productivity” with the OFS Intermix Collaborative Table.

NeoCon 2023 Trends: Lighting the Way to a Better Workspace

NeoCon Trends 2023 Stylex Seating Luna Lounge Seating

NeoCon has been setting the tone for commercial office furniture trends since 1990, and lighting the way for revolutionary designs of the commercial industry as a whole. Every year, NeoCon hosts more than 40,000 attendees and 400 companies to exhibit their latest furniture solutions, as well as keynotes, special events, and workshops for entrepreneurs and design professionals to connect and educate each other.  And this year is no exception.  With the best and brightest minds brought together, what are the NeoCon 2023 trends that we saw last month in June?

One thing’s for certain: the pandemic has heavily impacted the way we see the workplace, and the design industry has been significantly changed.

Trend 1: Sustainability

Sustainability is a rising concern in production. Consumers are increasingly aware of where their products come from, and it’s become one of the main factors they consider when buying furniture. This makes “green” furniture attractive to manufacturers from an ideological perspective. But not only that – sustainable furniture reduces carbon footprint, lengthens the lifespan of the product, and creates a circular economy that utilizes recycling and repurposing.

NeoCon Trends 2023 Via Seating Vooom Chair
Photo: Via Seating Vooom Chair

Via Seating’s Vooom chair won the Sustainability Award with their sustainable seating solution. Vooom has a distinctive wing arm design and is made up of 60% recycled PET bottles in its chair shell and is 100% recyclable.

Trend 2: Wellness

Wellness goes hand-in-hand with sustainability. The world today is fast-paced and full of uncertainties, leaving many stressed and stretched thin. As a result, designers are now leaning into the human aspect of care to facilitate relaxation and gain balance.  More and more, furniture these days are made with the environment and the people who use them in mind. No longer are workers expected to act like drones; designers are responding to changing needs in workspaces for people by using natural materials to enhance wellbeing. Materials like wood and soft, soothing colors create a sense of warmth and comfort and ties into other trends like sustainability and biophilia.

NeoCon Trends 2023 Darran Dove Lounge Seating
Photo: DARRAN Dove Guest, Lounge & Rocking Chairs

DARRAN’s Dove guest, lounge and rocking chair series is welcoming with its molded PET shell that is custom made to fit the perfect ergonomic shape for seating. It combines natural and recycled materials for extra stability and comfort.

Trend 3: Technology

Technology has come a long way from computers and copy machines when it comes to the office. The influence of technology on furniture design has become increasingly prevalent especially in the past few years, when we were forced to rely on it and find new ways to integrate it to our work culture during the pandemic. During NeoCon 2023, smart furniture is seeing a rise. Smart furniture has made its way into the workforce in the form of furniture being equipped with technology to adjust height, collect data on comfort preferences and more, to create an interactive space. Media tables are also frequently used as a flexible area, as an easy way to gather groups for quick online meetings and break apart for individual work. Technology has become a crucial solution to issues like ergonomic optimization, hybrid workspaces and productivity. It’s an irrefutable game-changer that is here to stay.

NeoCon Trends 2023 Via Seating 4-UP Chair
Photo: Via Seating Ergonomic 4-UP Chair

Via Seating’s 4-UP chair is an excellent example of technology at work with its focus on providing incredible ergonomics and comfort. The upholstered backs have adjustable lumbar standards and advanced control mechanisms that use single rotation adjustments for back and body options.

Trend 4: Flexibility

As the next generation heads into the workforce, productivity changes appearance. Nowadays, workplaces are willing to be more flexible, capable of working with their employees to find a space they can concentrate in. This was a trend this year in NeoCon 2023 because it allows for employees to have more adaptability and personalization in their workspaces, and are easily reconfigured to accommodate different needs. Flexible furniture consists of modular furniture, adjustable desks, collaborative seating and more. Optimization and fluidity is the objective of flexible furniture.

Wellness is another trend expected to extend into 2023 and beyond because designers have finally found the balance between motivation and relaxation. The importance of wellness is also backed by studies that show how flexible office layouts lead to more productive and happy employees. Wellness-focused design include features like ergonomic furniture, natural light and fresh air, thermal comfort and biophilic design.

We can look forward to further technology integration; technology is growing increasingly advanced and is taking the workplace with them in the form of touch-screen displays, smart lighting, and integrated audio/visual systems.

Bold and colorful interiors influenced by the 70s are also making a comeback—designers are all about channeling the exuberant energy and innovation from that decade to the present.

Curved furniture is another rising trend in 2023; adding a soft touch to the straight lines and clinical design of spaces. In tandem with sustainable design, color palettes with a focus on green, brown, and cream shades are popular throughout this year for its calming effect.

Looking for the perfect seating to furnish your office space? A SitOnIt chair just may be what you need!

Office chairs deserve attention and you need to choose one that works best in your office. These commonplace pieces of furniture are unsung heroes in the corporate environment and also for remote workers at home.

Get input on how you can choose whats right for you, by understanding why choosing the right chair is important for your personal well-being.

Sitting is Physically Demanding

Sitting looks like a passive activity, but its not. Pressure builds on your spine and lower back while extra stress is placed on your joints. Sitting for long periods of time without taking a stretch break or moving around wears you down.

Research highlighted by the Mayo Clinic, What Are the Risks of Sitting Too Much?, shows that sitting for eight hours a day with no physical activity poses the same health risks as smoking and obesity.

Think of an RV sitting in a driveway for months and months. Do you know what happens if its not placed on blocks or driven?

Air in the tires doesnt circulate and the wheels eventually go flat.

Think of a patient in the hospital. What happens if they only lie in one position and arent turned? They develop bed sores.

The same phenomenon happens with chairs, especially ones that dont align with your body weight.

Now use this to choose the right chairs for the right tasks—and physical shapes.

SitOnIt Chairs For Full-Time In-House Workers

Another Way to Select Chairs is to Select Your Desks

The types of workstation or desk you use can determine the best SitOnIt chair for your situation. Will the chair fit well with a height-adjustable desk or within a cubicle?

Just dont take your chair for granted. Its an invaluable piece of equipment to support every part of your body. And when your body is comfortable, your blood is circulating well and plenty of oxygen is flowing to the brain.

5 Ways of Developing a Positive Office Environment for Being Happy at the Office

Being Happy at the Office Trendway VoloWall

Finding content and being happy at the office is possible and it doesnt mean you have to give up on your entrepreneurial dreams or other aspirations. Regardless of anyones circumstances, there are plenty of reasons to be upbeat and happy. Create a supportive environment and see how a happy office has a competitive edge.

Develop Your Goals & Mission for Being Happy at the Office

Skilled leaders know how to set a tone that others want to follow by investing on their talents and getting engaged in the tasks at hand. Setting clear corporate goals, reminding people of the mission, and rewarding them leads to employee buy-in.

Make it clear where the company is now and chart the path forward with realistic goals.

Support everyone in their tasks by using furnishings that inspire them to do their best.

Develop an Atmosphere of Inspiration

An atmosphere, or ambiance, is an intangible element but its quite real. Walk into a setting thats either friendly or filled with tension, and you can immediately sense that something is happening—either good or bad.  You can feel right away if particular environment prioritizes their employees being happy at the office.  There are creative number of ways to do this.

Lay a good foundation by planning and designing your office with colors, fabrics, and furnishings that support your brand and mission.

The 2010 Office Inspirations web page lays out ideas to choose from.

What style of office design fits the personality of your company?

Either one can set the mood and vibe you want and any design can provide an ambiance that assists your team in being happy at the office and doing their best. This is one part in developing a strong brand internally.

Setting expectations is another part.

Develop Attitudes of Expectation

Expect people to perform and deliver. Lay out and communicate goals, and encourage feedback, and adjust as necessary. Trust them.

This is important, especially in times of hybrid work environments where some employees are in the office for part of their time and then for the remainder of their schedule theyre working out of the home or another remote location.

Expect the best from them.

And in doing so, equip them to carry out their goals. This means planning the workflow and being concerned about their well-being through ergonomics.

Quality seating, workstations, and proper desks contribute to setting the right expectations. Lighting and other accessories enhance the employee experience, and lead to them being happy at the office.

Develop Wellness to Promote Being Happy at the Office

Our professional and personal lives often overlap and thats fine when everythings going well.

But what happens when a crisis strikes like when an employee goes through personal loss or injury, or the company is hit with a shakeup due to external factors?

An atmosphere of wellness can mean discounted memberships to local gyms or even health plans with counseling options available. Personal issues often need to be handled outside of the work setting.

What happens if you need to talk in-house, though?

Group chats and debriefings dont have to happen in a formal conference room. Modular furniture solutions can give a relaxed feel.

Develop a System of Small Rewards

Cash bonuses are great incentives, of course, and help for being happy at the office. But so are other perks like letting plenty of natural light flow through the office and providing free coffee and other drinks in the break room.

Have plenty of bottled water and healthy snacks on hand. Fatty, high sugar treats like doughnuts can bog down the digestive system. Eating well is one of the key ways of staying healthy and being happy at the office, as noted by job placement agency Monster.com in 10 Tips for Staying Happy at Work.

Small rewards can help the office become a desired destination instead of a place where you have to go or else youll get in trouble.

Creating a Touchdown Space to Empower Your Employees

Creating a Touchdown Space OFS LeanTo Lounge
In recent years, a new trend has emerged in office design: touchdown spaces. A touchdown space provides employees with a flexible and versatile working environment.  It allows them to work effectively, efficiently and dynamically. In this article, we’ll explore what touchdown spaces are, the different types, and how they benefit employees.

What is a Touchdown Space?

Because many wonder what the touchdown space meaning is, let’s break it down.  A touchdown space describes a flexible workspace that’s typically laptop-centric and designed for short-term use. These spaces are usually located in high-traffic areas of an office, such as near the reception area or other central location. In some cases in a privately carved out space. Touchdown spaces are designed to be accessible and comfortable.  They’re also designed to cater to employees who are typically on-the-go and need a space to work briefly for an an hour or so, right before their next scheduled task somewhere else.  Functional, comfortable and convenient for everyone, they offer a range of benefits for workers, employers and even guests.

The LeanTo Lounge Seating by OFS is a great example of an informal touchdown setup that can be used by individuals or small group of people.  With comfortable seating, an upholstered high back, and worsurface tablet, its perfect for a private/semi-private work oasis.

Touchdown Space Types

There are several different types of touchdown spaces that can provide employees with a flexible workspace. A popular one are touchdown meeting spaces equipped with audio-visual equipment, whiteboards, and other tools for effective collaboration.  Another type are private working nooks or pods to accommodate individuals to concentrate and work alone.  A lounge, breakroom or cafe booth can also be a touchdown space for relaxed and less concentrated tasks.  And designated reception spaces can be perfect for on the go workers and guests as a touchdown space to catch up on work.

Touchdown Workspaces Allow Flexibility

A great benefit of office touchdown spaces is that they provide employees a more flexible way of working that encourages them to be more productive at work. Unfortunately, many employees today spend almost all their time at work glued to their workstation or desk.  Traditional office setups typically foster this type of sedentary culture and doesn’t facilitate much inter-office collaboration or movement.  Touchdown spaces provide supplemental work spaces to encourage workers to get up, move around and interact with their peers throughout the day.

Photo: OFS Tangent Modular Lounge

Tangent by OFS is a modular lounge seating that can be configured many different ways in reception or lounge areas.  It’s equipped with power and charging capabilities, as well as table tops and layover tables, to comfortably accommodate workers or guests seeking a touchdown space.

A Touchdown Co-Working Space Promotes Community

An additional benefit of touchdown spaces is that they promote a sense of camaraderie among different groups within an office community.  In traditional office setups, departments are often very much separated and very rarely do they interact .  A touchdown co-working space can help break down divisions among departments by providing common spaces where everyone can go to and work.  This would allow workers to get to know each other better, interact and share ideas.  For remote workers who are not regularly at the office, this is especially important to reconnect with with the company and their office peers.

Co-working spaces can be informal meeting areas, breakrooms and lounges, and sometimes offer amenities like a staff kitchen, juice bar, library or printing facilities.

The ERG International Beta Table is perfect for a touchdown co-working space, and can be equipped with a television screen for group presentations when collaborating with fellow employees.

Happier and More Productive Employees

Touchdown spaces can also help to improve employee well-being and satisfaction.  These days especially, more and more workers report being burnt out from the stress and demands of their routine tasks.  A comfortable and inviting touchdown area apart from their designated desk or workstation can help.  By providing employees with alternate areas to collaborate with others and/or concentrate on work, a change of scenery and pace is provided, as well as physical movement.  This helps to discourage a sedentary work culture, which in turn, foster happier and healthier employees.

Individual Touchdown Space for Concentrated Work

For many open-plan workspaces where employees work alongside each other in benching workstations, sometimes a touchdown space is necessary for some peace and quiet.  It can be set up away from the busy main floor for individuals to momentarily escape and work with less noise and distraction.

Photo: Arcadia Co-Op Lounge & Workspace

Arcadia’s Co-Op Lounge Seating is designed as private booth, and can be configured to accommodate a group of people, as well as a single worker.  With comfortable upholstered seating, a generous worksurface table, and great privacy and acoustics, it’s ideal for setting up touchdown stations for employees that need quiet and concentration.

Overall Benefits of Touchdown Space

To recap, there are many benefits of a touchdown space. These include:

1. Increased Flexibility and Productivity

Happier employees are productive employees.  When you offer workers flexibility by providing them with spaces that cater to their needs, they’re likely to be more energetic, focused and get their tasks done.

2. Improved Collaboration

Touchdown spaces that are designed to be collaborative and flexible allow employees to work together on projects and tasks. This can improve communication and collaboration between different teams and departments.

3. Reduced Stress and Fatigue

By giving employees the freedom to move around and access comfortable and flexible alternate workspaces, they’re less likely to be stressed and fatigued.  Workers who are able to move throughout their day can reduce their overall discomfort and anxiety, which makes them more satisfied, happy and productive.

4. Better Work/Life Balance

Employers should recognize that employees are people too, and that have personal lives they sometimes have to tend to while at work.  In a lot of cases, they need to step out and give attention to a family situation or other personal matter that may suddenly arise.  By providing workers a touchdown space that allows them to go to during their breaks, they’re able to focus on the personal situation at hand, and afterwards can resume work less distracted and more engaged.

Importance of Collaborative Spaces After Covid

The Covid-19 pandemic has changed the way we work and interact with each other. As we continue to adjust to the new normal, appropriate covid office furniture in collaborative space design has become more important than ever. Some important reasons for collaborative covid office solutions are: to address ongoing office social distancing that still exist in some offices; improve office flexibility to support remote or work-from-home workers; promote mental health; and inspire company growth and innovation.  Enwork’s Skyline Screen allows social distancing at work while meeting with others by providing clear barricades to be set up on table tops.

1. Social Distancing: With the need for social distancing in some businesses still existing, a specially designed collaborative office space provides a safe environment where employees can work together while maintaining a safe distance.

2. Flexibility: Collaborative spaces provide flexibility in terms of work arrangements. With remote work becoming more common, these spaces provide a space where employees can come together and work on projects when needed.

3. Mental Health: Provide an environment where employees can interact with each other and build relationships. Collaborative spaces help to promote mental health and wellbeing, especially during times of stress and uncertainty, as well as ongoing remote work that typically isolate employees.

4. Innovation: Collaborative spaces provide an environment where employees can come together and share ideas. Oftentimes, it’s the act of interaction and collaboration among peers and colleagues that help spark new discoveries.  This leads to innovation and the development of new products and services.Designing a Collaborative Office Space Rouillard Coast Media Table

A Successful Work-From-Home Strategy to Adapt

Stepping out of the corporate office and into a successful work-from-home scenario seems to have plenty of advantages like reduced commute times and being available for family needs as they arise.

Corporate offices can have plenty of distractions like conversations in the break rooms, last-minute meetings, and reports needing to be turned in. But home offices have their own distractions.

Successful Work-From-Home Strategy HON Ignition Chair
Photo: HON Ignition Chair

Dogs barking at delivery people can disrupt a train of thought. A comfy sofa is a great place to sit, but you might end up reading or watching TV for longer than you planned.

Since no ones looking over your shoulder, you might spend more time on social media than you had wanted. Running to the store to get what you need for lunch is an interruption, usually taking longer than expected. Traffic, chatty cashiers, and long wait lines can cause delays.

So, what does it take to work from home?

Discipline and the right equipment in a focused space.

Use these tips to develop your successful work-from-home strategy.

Choose Your Work-From Home Space

You might not have many choices depending on the size of your home or apartment. You may only have a corner or a small room. Either way, try to make it near a window for natural light and then make it as pleasant and focused as you can. Keep it clutter-free.  These are essential for a successful work-from-home office space.

If your area for your laptop and phone is crowded then set up a storage area in another room or the garage for keeping files and other materials.

Define Your Space

If youre in a pathway where others will walk by then make sure you set boundaries around your desk so theres a physical separation between household busyness and your work. Use broad leafy plants in containers and set them on chairs or bookcases so youre not in the direct line of sight of kids or roommates.

Photo: Darran Cameleon Shelf Storage

The DARRAN Chameleon Storage unit is a good option. Its lightweight with a minimalist design so it enhances an area but doesnt overwhelm compact spaces.

Another way to create a boundary between personal and professional pursuits is installing acoustic sound panels or divider panels to deaden sound waves.

Photo: Snowsound PLI Acoustic Panels & Space Dividers

Translucent dividers allow light to flow through space while providing privacy, and are thus conducive to a successful work-from-home strategy.

Photo: Loftwall Hitch Privacy Panels & Space Dividers

The Loftwall Hitch Space Divider fits neatly in an L-shape with a larger panel resting on the floor, and a smaller panel fitting on the desktop surface to the wall. The Loftwall Split Space Divider blends into the surroundings and is a panel divider on casters or wheels thats portable.

Equip Your Space

What do you need in order to do your best and present yourself as a highly regarded professional?

Choose the right kind of desk whether it’s a height-adjustable desk or an L-shaped surface like the ODS Artiv Desk that allows you to spread out. Accessories are important. Remember to think ergonomics so you have a supportive and successful work-from-home working environment:

  • Proper lighting reduces eye strain and the chance of headaches
  • Use keyboard trays to support the wrists
  • Ergonomic chairs promote good posture and reduce strain on the lower back and knees

Photo: Snowsound Flap Grande Acoustic Panels

Dont get lost in the clutter.

Choose storage containers and filing cabinets since orderly surroundings contribute to clear thinking.

You’re the Key to a Successful Work-From Home Lifestyle

But theres something else you must have for a successful work-from-home environment and thats personal discipline.

If you dont have to commute to the office, then start your morning with a brisk walk or another form of exercise to clear your mind and get your focus.

Do advance planning and take a few moments on a Sunday afternoon or evening to plan the most important tasks you need to complete for the week.

Each day, tackle the things you dont want to do first and get those items out of the way.

Do your most focused work in one large block of time and try to hold phone calls or meetings in the afternoons.

Be realistic about your daily and weekly goals.

Communicate, communicate, and communicate to let others know if youre falling behind on deadlines or if youre on track. According to research in the Harvard Business Review, The Realities of Remote Work (Oct 29, 2021), managers often question if employees are productive at home.

You might be out of sight of a corporate office, but you dont want others wondering if youre thinking about them. You may be out of sight. But let your managers know that theyre not out of your mind.

Check emails at set times of the day like 9am, noon, and 3pm. Dont try and email back and forth on complex subjects. Instead, make a phone call or arrange a time on Zoom to discuss details.

Finally, eat properly and get the rest you need. You dont have the stress of a morning or evening commute but rolling out of bed feeling groggy and trying to work is its own stress.

Lay the foundation for your success with a well-equipped and well-planned space, just like you would have at a corporate office.
