It’s that time of the year again!…to announce the 2025 Color of the the Year.

With the end of 2024 approaching, the Pantone Color of the Year program meets once again to bring the design community and color enthusiasts together in a discussion about the relationship between color and culture. At the conclusion of this conversation, Pantone selects a color that captures the ambience and expectations of the new year—the Color of the Year.

Pantone Color Institute has declared PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse the Color of the Year for 2025.

A Little Background

Before diving into why the 2025 Color of the Year is Mocha Mousse, a little more background on the selection process is needed.

Pantone Color of the Year originally started off as an educational program with the purpose of drawing attention to how current events in global culture can be expressed through color. Nowadays, a global team of color experts at the Pantone Color Institute look all over the world for inspiration. This includes places like the entertainment and film industry, art collections, fashion, lifestyles, travel destinations and even socio-economic conditions. Inspiration doesn’t just come from the arts; new technologies can also influence the Color of the Year.

After much research and analysis on color trend forecasting, the global team come together and lend their different perspectives and weigh factors like color psychology and the mood of the global zeitgeist to identify the right color.

So Why Mocha Mousse?

Mocha Mousse, like all Color of the Years past, are deliberately named to tell a story.

Mocha Mousse is a warm brown hue that evokes the rich, satisfying qualities of chocolate and coffee. This color answers our desire for comfort. It is a gentle continuation of the 2024 Color of the Year, Peach Fuzz, which conjured feelings of kindness and tenderness.

And while Mocha Mousse is similar to Peach Fuzz in its peacefulness, this new shade represents a shift towards quiet luxury and sensorial richness. In Pantone’s Executive Director Leatrice Eiseman’s words, “…Pantone 17-1230 Mocha Mousse expresses a level of thoughtful indulgence… [and] extends our perceptions of the browns from being humble and grounded to embrace aspirational and luxe.” The message Pantone hopes to convey is to enjoy the little things—to treat yourself to small indulgences that bring an overall sense of comfort and make the world seem softer and lighter.

How Are Industries Using 2025 Color of the Year Mocha Mousse?

We are already seeings signs of brands utilizing the new color of the year.

The beauty industry is forecasting a subtle, elegant Mocha Mousse trend. Pantone’s 2025 Color of the Year is popping up in fashion in the form of Mocha Mousse hair, earthy brown lips, blush and more.

Interior designers have been loving brown lately, and the 2025 Color of the Year fits right in with the latest trends. When used on walls, Mocha Mousse transforms the space into a warm and inviting open area. The mellow hue creates a sense of intimacy and gives an organic feel because of its earthy tone, echoing our commitment to eco-conscious practices.

As noted by Pantone, Mocha Mousse has diverse applications, capable of being used alone or as a versatile foundation. Because of this, they recommend pairing Mocha Mousse with bright white for a modern look and natural feel. If white is too stark, Pantone created five unique color palettes that harmonize with the 2025 Color of the Year. Each have their own distinct feeling and mood, making customization a breeze.

A New Era of Decadence

NeoCon 2024 Trends: Innovation, Inclusion & Whimsy

NeoCon is the place where trends are born. NeoCon 2024 dates from June 10-12, where an estimated 50,000 attendees and over 400 companies meet at THE MART to learn and showcase what the latest innovations in office design are through exhibitions, presentations, and workshops.  So what are the NeoCon 2024 trends?

Last year, NeoCon 2023 introduced themes of human-centric design, sustainable practices, and inclusive reconfiguration. These themes were similar those of NeoCon 2022 as part of the chain reaction that quarantine has had on the design industry. Will this year’s trends fall in the same vein as the past two years?

The results are in, and the answer is yes.

But that doesn’t mean that NeoCon 2024 trends don’t stand out on their own. This summer the convention was a vibrant display of innovation, inclusiveness, and whimsy. 

NeoCon ’24 Trend 1: Sustainability

Sustainability takes center stage once again in NeoCon 2024. In 2023, eco-friendly materials became important because consumers began to factor in the source of their products when buying furniture. Not only that, but it also reduces carbon footprint and lengthens the lifespan of the product. This year, designers are taking sustainability to the next level. Keeping the mentioned benefits in mind, many vendors also highlighted new sustainability initiatives and broadened their non-consumptive options with increased wood/veneer use. 

For instance, NeoCon 2024 winner Global Furniture Group’s Collaborative Spaces utilizes PET felt as modesty panels and chair covers and aluminum framework for its tables, shelves and desks. All of it is durable and 100% recyclable, made with sustainability in mind.

NeoCon ’24 Trend 2: Community

Humans are social creatures and our surroundings reflect that. Collaboration is not a new trend; since the pandemic, the office design industry has been reacting to its effects on human interaction. People crave to be near each other after being separated for so long, and that sentiment is being expanded even today. But we’re not lingering on the open plan office anymore. With a renewed appreciation for the community, designers are trying to create spaces that can foster  connection and camaraderie while accommodating other environments.

NeoCon 2024 exhibitors KI and Stylex introduced new products that fit that category this year: the Sonrisa lounge furniture and the Ambi modular lounge. Sonrisa’s design aims to strike the perfect balance between the individual experience and community interaction. It’s flexible, capable of adapting to the ever-changing dynamics of modern needs. The Ambi modular lounge won the Business Impact Award because of how ingeniously crafted it is, being made for both in-person and virtual collaboration. It has multiple configurations, making it easy to provide privacy or to create a space for group work.

NeoCon ’24 Trend 3: Wellbeing

After over a century of the design industry’s existence, one thing is clear: there is no universal solution to a workplace. Everyone reacts differently to their environment and if we want to optimize efficiency and productivity, it is time to start catering to human-centric designs. That’s where wellbeing comes in.

Wellbeing is a theme we have been seeing since 2022. Its echoes and ripples are still felt today.  With that in mind, NeoCon 2024 forecast that it would continue to be an important factor in office design. This year it appears in the shape of inclusive workspaces. This means that when designing for an office, designers have to consider different environments for workers to find levels of privacy and concentration, connection and engagement. The goal for wellbeing is to find furniture that accommodates the employees, and not the other way around.

The OFS Ally Private Office revolutionizes traditional configurations by creating a space that can offer the needed seclusion of a private office while also providing a space for workers to connect. Senator Group’s CellPod is another innovative product that comes in various shapes that can be used as casual meeting spaces, semi-private booths, or individual seating for concentration.

NeoCon ’24 Trend 4: Joyful Colors & Textures

The color trends at NeoCon 2024 reflected the focus on community connection, neurodiversity, and well-being. There were no particular color schemes; every color was free game as long as it elicited emotions such as happiness or calm, depending on where it was used. Color often went hand-in-hand with textures to subconsciously stimulate positive feelings and energize workers.

As the winner of the Best of Competition award, Momentum’s collaboration with Yinka Ilori showcased this combination best. Vibrant patterns and masterful use of color inspire a sense of community and playfulness. Stylex Creative Director Carole Baijings also created a new color palette full of bold contrasts and unexpected pairings, influenced by European aesthetics.

Looking Toward The Future

And that wraps up the NeoCon 2024 review. The future of office design continues to gravitate towards human-centric values, focusing on those who inhabit the workplace instead of the environment itself.

Life’s a Peach!…with Pantone 2024 Color of the Year

Ring in the new year with Pantone’s pick for the color of 2024: “Peach Fuzz.”

Every year, Pantone chooses a color that they believe reflects the trends and sentiments of the upcoming months. The color of 2023 was “Viva Magenta,” a vibrant purple-red that forecasted a year of exuberance and empowerment. After a tense year of adjusting to life post-pandemic and social unrest, “Viva Magenta” heralded new beginnings and “celebrated coming out of the malaise of the last year,” according to Leatrice Eiseman, the executive director of the Pantone Color Institute.

In contrast, Pantone’s 2024 Color of the Year is more subtle and intimate. Pantone 13-1023 “Peach Fuzz” is a warm, cozy hue with a unique mixture of white, orange, and yellow, meant to evoke peace and mirror our desire to nurture ourselves and those around us. “Peach Fuzz” is a softer color than “Viva Magenta” because it serves as a reminder to slow down and get in touch with our compassionate side after a tumultuous year with stressors in multiple aspects of our lives.

“Peach Fuzz” encapsulates delicateness. It calls to mind the mellow shades of the sunrise, the cosiness of a warm blanket, velvety, ripe peaches, and luxurious silks. Eiseman points out that these impressions place an emphasis on health and wellness, telling TIME magazine, “It’s important we recognize the need to foster our inner selves and find moments of respite, creativity, and human connection.”

What is Pantone’s Color of the Year Program?

The Pantone Color Institute created the Color of the Year program in 1999 to engage the design community in a discussion of color and to unveil the relationship between culture and color. Experts look at many aspects before deciding on a defining color for the forthcoming year: color trends, fashion, marketing, social media and even politics and significant worldwide events. It’s not decided based off one isolated meeting at a specific time; it’s a continuous conversation among Pantone Color Institute team members that come from an extensive range of design, cultural, and geographic backgrounds. They discuss the results of their color trend research and color psychology to define the spirit of the upcoming year and narrow down the shade from there. The program has influenced the development and purchasing decisions of nearly every existing industry and country around the world with its acknowledged authority on color.

With this program, Pantone determines the atmosphere of the year and sets the ball rolling for businesses everywhere.

How are Industries Using 2024 Color of the Year Peach Fuzz?

Because Pantone analyzes numerous facets of society before narrowing down the color of the year, they have the edge in predicting consumer trends. Once they announce it, brands will typically start designing products with the Color of the Year.

Pantone anticipates that “Peach Fuzz” will appear in apparel and accessories in the form of suede, velvet, quilted, and furry textures to highlight the snug, pleasant hue and convey the feeling of tangibility and affection. Keep an eye out for blankets, coats, scarves and more in muted coral; this Pantone 2024 Color is more approachable than last year’s vivid magenta and will be easier to style.

If you’re worried that peach isn’t your color, don’t worry! Peach is versatile: if the orange-pink hue isn’t for you, companies are turning to peach-inspired graphics and subtle designs for shirts and jewelry.

Other industries are putting their own spin on “Peach Fuzz,” too. Tom Ford recently released their latest scent called Bitter Peach Eau de Parfum, while makeup companies are celebrating the shade as a soft, warm universal hue that is flattering on all skin tones. Motorola launched “Peach Fuzz” versions of their latest phones, the Razor 40 Ultra and Edge 40 Neo. Polaroid collaborated with Pantone to create exclusive peach-colored frames for their films.

The 2024 Pantone Color will fit right in with interior design. Current trends in this industry have been focusing on the comfort and wellness of employees by blending elements of the office and home. “Peach Fuzz” is the perfect addition to that as a message of community and collaboration; creating a welcoming ambiance by promoting gentle warmth. Peach will make an appearance on painted walls, accented furniture, decorated objects, or textiles. Try color-drenching, a technique that involves painting all aspects of a room—from the walls to ceilings to doors—with one color to give a space an airy and harmonious ambiance.

If color-drenching sounds intimidating, introduce a peachy pop of color as an area rug. That would serve as a focal point to your space without clashing with neutral tones like light browns or soft whites.

Play with light using pastel peach curtains or other accent pieces of furniture in the form of sofas, chairs or cushions. Natural light is making a comeback as an essential part of interior design and subtle peach hues infuse a sense of coziness in the room.

TRENDS BLOOM AT NEOCON – 2019 OFFICE FURNITURE TRENDS

Tens of thousands of guests from around the globe were dazzled at NeoCon 2019 a couple of weeks ago at Chicago’s historic Merchandise Mart, as top industry names such as Herman Miller, Vitra, Steelcase and more lead the world’s biggest manufacturers in showcasing their most impressive and newest products.  As the single most important event of the year for commercial office furniture, NeoCon is the world’s leading platform for commercial design innovation and networking.  Hundred of brands were represented in areas of furniture, textiles, building materials, lighting, wall coverings, floor coverings, outdoor products, accessories and more. 

Every year, NeoCon gives us a special glimpse into the future.  From the most popular colors, fabrication and materials to progressive shapes, structures and cutting-edge innovations, here are the top trends we found at the show.

LIGHTING STEALS THE SHOW

Manufacturers definitely pulled out all the stops inside their showrooms–and it was oftentimes difficult not to look up.  Fabulous lighting displays were everywhere this year at the Merchandise Mart, attracting guests to each of the beautifully designed rooms and vignettes.  Lighting was no longer there just to complement, but instead wow the guests and lead them in.  Maybe–just maybe–it really is all about the lighting..?

PASTELS & NEONS LEAD A RAINBOW CAST

Among the dizzying display of rainbow colors, 2 types were no doubt up front and center: pastels and neons.  Pastels came in all different hues, but there was definitely a love affair with dusty pinks, magentas and salmons this year (probably trickling down from Millennial Pink’s fading popularity, and Pantone’s 2019 hot color of the year, Living Coral).  Neons were also very much in your face, especially with highlighter yellows and greens.  But one thing’s for sure, the colors didn’t stop there.  There was a bold experimentation with geometric color-blocking and mixing-and-matching of everything–from neutral palettes to bright, cheerful hues, and to darker, brooding tones such as burgundy and teal.

DECADENT TEXTURES & FABRICS

One universal theme that was clear and very much present at NeoCon 2019 was comfort.  And nothing says comfort more than fabrics and materials that draw us in and make us feel good.  From luxurious fur, velvets and felt to exquisite leather, chenille and quilted surfaces, this is the era of rich, decadent textures and fabrics. And we all want to be enveloped in them–not just at home–but at the workplace.

REAL FURNITURE HAVE CURVES

Falling under the comfort theme, we were shocked at how much curves there were in many of the furniture design displayed.  It seemed as though there was a unified, conscious effort to make sure everything was rounded off, softened up, and cushioned.  And when you saw something that was hard-edged or sharp, its starkness was minimized with blunt edges and organic textures.  Gone are the days of sharp and sleek. For now, it’s bye-bye furniture anorexia and hello furniture with curves.

THOUGHTFUL GREENERY & BIOPHILIA

Biophilia in recent years have taken root and flourished into our offices, reaching its peak in 2017 when Pantone announced Greenery as color of the year.  Now, a more refined way of introducing the outdoors indoors was seen throughout many of the showrooms.  It was no longer trees, plants and leaves galore.  Greenery was tastefully pulled back and incorporated in more thoughtful, inventive and even quirky ways.

ALL ABOUT PRIVACY

We all knew it was coming.  When office walls started to disappear around the early 2000’s to make room for collaborative open-plan layouts, our privacy went along with them.  Now, there is a much stronger need and demand for private, secluded spaces for quiet, concentrated work.  We were excited to see many innovative solutions that were offered at this year’s show.

RESIMERCIAL COMFORT TO RESORT BLISS

Resimercial design, which was huge in last year’s show,  helped bring the comforts of home to the office.  It provided professionals comfortable, informal workspaces where they can be productive, collaborative, and dynamic.  This year (as though feeling at home wasn’t enough) we saw a lot of rich, natural, soothing wood finishes, parachute chord details, light and airy curtains (serving as room dividers) and wicker weave applications–all reminiscent of being at a 5 star island resort.  It was as if resimercial design is now giving way to hospitality design.
