For decades, NeoCon has been the ultimate proving ground for workplace innovation—a massive, fast-paced hub where the world’s leading designers converge at THE MART. However, over the past few years, the Chicago design scene has undergone a significant transformation. The sun is shining, temperatures are warming up, and summer has officially begun. For the commercial design industry, it can only mean one thing: NeoCon 2025 is here and everyone is obsessed about finding out who the NeoCon 2025 winners are.

NeoCon is the largest and most important annual event for designers to connect and introduce new ideas and concepts that can shape the landscape of interior design. It takes place early to mid-June for 3 days, and this time it was held from June 9-11 at THE MART in Chicago, along with other surrounding venues. The 2025 theme, Design Ahead, foreshadowed an exploration of creativity and innovation to inspire a more sustainable future. With seven awards ranging from Gold, Silver, Sustainability, Innovation, Business Impact, Best of Competition and People’s Choice Award granted to forty-three categories, here are the standouts of the NeoCon 2025 Winners!

Capisco Puls Chair by HÅG

SUSTAINABILITY WINNER / TASK SEATING — HÅG received the Sustainability Award for the Capisco Puls chair, their latest in the Capsico lineup. Like all of their products, Capisco Puls is built with HÅG inBalance technology to ensure a dynamic sitting experience. But what makes Capisco Puls a step above the others? Their ingenious use of recycled snow plough markers that does not compromise on comfort or aesthetics.

SILVER AND PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD / BENCHING &FURNITURE SYSTEMS — A winner twice over, Global Furniture Group takes NeoCon by storm with their breathtaking Open Spaces furniture system. Open Spaces is Global Furniture Group’s response to the chaos of the open office. This furniture system can curate a sense of belonging in a loud environment with their diverse options of materials and finishes, as well as their softened edges of each shape and surface. With this year’s theme emphasizing the future of design, it’s no wonder attendees voted Open Spaces as their favorite product for the People’s Choice Award.

They believe that people rely on furniture to carry them through their work, learning, and life, inspiring them to create reliable solutions to modern-day problems. Zylo + by Oxti Corporation

GOLD AND INNOVATION AWARD / TASK LIGHTING — Oxti Corporation is an emerging designer that impressed the attendees at NeoCon with their groundbreaking Zylo+ lamp. Zylo+ was made to tackle two workplace problems: lighting and disinfection. It can provide a well-lit workspace to reduce eyestrain and fatigue while keeping your desk hygienic using specific light frequencies from Biovitae’s patented technology. No wonder they won a Gold and Innovation Award; with Zylo+ the future is already here.

Central Bark by DARRAN

INNOVATION AWARD / CASELOADS — Comfort meets Productivity with DARRAN’s Central Bark. Chrissy Fehan introduces an unexpected product to the office: a dog bed. While this may be a surprising idea, there are actually many benefits of bringing a pet to work, such as reducing stress, improving work-life quality, and even enhancing work engagement. Cooee is all about defining spaces and curating new ones when you need them. Whether its breakout zones, meeting spaces or private workstations, Cooee can do it all. Their colorful and vibrant partitions elevate function and flexibility while bringing a playfulness to the space.

Bolete Armchair by Andreu World

SILVER AWARD / GUEST SEATING — Andreu World is once again a Silver Award winner in this year’s NeoCon event with their unique Bolete Armchair. Fluid and free-flowing, Bolete transforms any setting it inhabits. With its plush seat and pleated-patterned base combined with a 100% recycled thermopolymer shell, Bolete is a champion of modern and sustainable design.

NeoCon 2025 Winners in Review

Now that NeoCon has ended, we are seeing what the latest innovative solutions have to say about the future of the commercial design industry. Trends such as multi-use spaces, sustainability, and durability are still going strong, but others like inclusive design are being expanded to spaces that support emotional wellness. The 2025 theme, “Design Ahead,” signifies a forward-looking shift in perspective: present-day problems are going to be resolved with new solutions, not reused ones. NeoCon 2024: A First Sneak-Peak

Summer is fast approaching and with it comes NeoCon 2024.

Every year in June, Chicago’s Merchandise Mart (THE MART) hosts NeoCon—an event for all furniture and interior design enthusiasts to interact and see the latest innovations in residential, hospitality, health-care, education, and workplace spaces. The exhibitions are divided into ten categories: best of competition, acoustics and privacy, flooring, furniture, healthcare, interior products and solutions, lighting, outdoor, technology, and textiles. Prestigious awards such as the Best of NeoCon, Interior Design’s HiP, MetropolisLikes, and IIDA Showroom & Booth Design are handed out at the end of the convention.

Blast From the Past

Optimism and collaboration were encapsulated in last year’s theme: “Together We Design.”

NeoCon 2023 focused on human wellbeing in the office. Exhibiters presented furniture that would not only make people comfortable working in public spaces again, but also answered environmental and behavioral desires and needs. These came in the form of private offices, pods, shared workspaces and more. Human well-being was the benchmark companies judged themselves by, and they rose to the occasion. Design trends featured more amped-up, playful colors and rounded/organic shapes to boost that feeling of comfort and dynamic elements.

Notable Winners Of Neocon 2023

Senator Group won Gold and Silver awards with their CoLab collection for the furniture category because of their versatility and adaptability in collaborative environments.

NeoCon 2024 Provides Glimpse of the Future

NeoCon 2024 is shaping up to be just as memorable and exciting as its previous years.

This year’s theme is “Design Takes Shape.” Many regulars such as Allermuir, Snowsound, Global Furniture Group, Stylex, Koncept Lighting and more will be returning with the latest trends in commercial interior design.

With the new year comes new opportunities: NeoCon has announced that 18 new showrooms, expansions and renovations will be debuting on June 10. Some of the newcomers include Silen, an Estonian furniture company making their mark with sleek modular office pods; Bulo, renown for transforming the typical office into a bucolic, homey environment; and Fōmcore, an American-based company specializing in soft seating and whimsical designs. Also new to the event is the inclusion of the Climate Positive Solutions Gallery. This space is dedicated to materials and technologies that are low-carbon and carbon-negative, with the intention of helping designers understand how to go green without compromising aesthetics, quality, and reasonable prices.

Last but not least, NeoCon cements its place as the most important event for the commercial design industry with their inspirational presentations. Keynote speakers include industry leaders such as Gensler’s Global Entertainment leader Bob Weis, multi-disciplinary artist and designer Yinka Ilori, and Academy Award-winning costume designer Ruth E. Carter.

One thing’s for certain: the pandemic has heavily impacted the way we see the workplace, and the design industry has been significantly changed.

Trend 1: Sustainability

Sustainability is a rising concern in production. Consumers are increasingly aware of where their products come from, and it’s become one of the main factors they consider when buying furniture. This makes “green” furniture attractive to manufacturers from an ideological perspective. But not only that – sustainable furniture reduces carbon footprint, lengthens the lifespan of the product, and creates a circular economy that utilizes recycling and repurposing.

Via Seating’s Vooom chair won the Sustainability Award with their sustainable seating solution. Vooom has a distinctive wing arm design and is made up of 60% recycled PET bottles in its chair shell and is 100% recyclable.

Trend 2: Wellness

Wellness goes hand-in-hand with sustainability. The world today is fast-paced and full of uncertainties, leaving many stressed and stretched thin. As a result, designers are now leaning into the human aspect of care to facilitate relaxation and gain balance. More and more, furniture these days are made with the environment and the people who use them in mind. No longer are workers expected to act like drones; designers are responding to changing needs in workspaces for people by using natural materials to enhance wellbeing. Materials like wood and soft, soothing colors create a sense of warmth and comfort and ties into other trends like sustainability and biophilia.

NeoCon 2023 Countdown Begins!

NeoCon 2023 is fast approaching, and with it the chance to see the latest innovation in furniture.

NeoCon is the most important event of the year for the commercial design industry since 1969. It takes place at the famous Merchandise Mart, also known as “The Mart,” in Chicago and is only open to trade professionals. They divide their entries into categories, ranging from Furniture, Fabrics, Flooring, Interior Building Products, Interior Finishes and Technology to markets such as Workplace, Healthcare, Hospitality, Retail, Education, Public Space and Government. NeoCon is an event of creativity and growth that allows professionals to see the latest the furniture world has to offer and attend educational programs to make connections, learn, and offer their insight and expertise on important topics in the industry today.

A Look Back at NeoCon 2022

Typically organized by Merchandise Mart Properties Inc., the most recent NeoCon was held in 2022. For three days, from June 13 – 15, the exhibit hall was the heart of NeoCon, where over 500 exhibitors showcased the latest products and trends in commercial design. The key themes that emerged from them were sustainable design, the increased use of technology to enhance the workplace, adaptable, flexible spaces in a post-pandemic world, and a focus on employee wellness.

KONCEPT INC. won the Gold Award for the lighting section with their Focaccia Desk Lamp and Silver Award for the Combi Pendant Light while OFS presented a new series of seating products that won the Sustainability award with their natural materials.

Scandinavian Spaces also won the Innovation award in the furniture category with their Yarn chair for its environmentally-friendly textiles and organic design.

NeoCon 2022 offered a glimpse of the future where design can be used to create more productive, comfortable, and green workplaces.

Looking Forward to NeoCon 2023

This year, NeoCon is going to take place on June 12 – 14. It will feature 56 product categories that will be evaluated onsite by a diverse panel of juries that consist of renowned architects, designers, and others with a mastery in commercial, healthcare, education, and hospitality sectors. While there are typically 5 awards available, as of 2023, NeoCon is also announcing that the best entries will be granted a Business Impact Award as recognition of outstanding solutions through industry-oriented lens.

What Will NeoCon 2023 Trends Be?

Sustainable materials continue to be popular; consumers are now more aware than ever of their impact on the environment and are seeking green materials. Long-lasting, environmental-friendly furniture solutions is a trend that’s here to stay.

Wellness is another trend expected to extend into 2023 and beyond because designers have finally found the balance between motivation and relaxation. The importance of wellness is also backed by studies that show how flexible office layouts lead to more productive and happy employees. Wellness-focused design include features like ergonomic furniture, natural light and fresh air, thermal comfort and biophilic design.

We can look forward to further technology integration; technology is growing increasingly advanced and is taking the workplace with them in the form of touch-screen displays, smart lighting, and integrated audio/visual systems.

Bold and colorful interiors influenced by the 70s are also making a comeback—designers are all about channeling the exuberant energy and innovation from that decade to the present.

Curved furniture is another rising trend in 2023; adding a soft touch to the straight lines and clinical design of spaces. In tandem with sustainable design, color palettes with a focus on green, brown, and cream shades are popular throughout this year for its calming effect.
